SITD invests in women’s futures by empowering them through educational training and scholarships, as well as in supporting local community programs in Truckee and North Tahoe. 
 
Thanks to your generous donations and community support, SITD has successfully supported local women and girls in achieving more economic independence to live their dreams. Your support has enabled us to award $87,562 this fiscal year in grants and scholarships, which in turn, impacted 1,430 women and girls. 
 
The following statistics and stories are a just a few of the ways your donations have helped to impact the lives of local women.

Empowering Women and Girls

  • A total of $10,000 to four women as part of SIA’s Live Your Dream Program for women who are head of household, have a financial need and are pursuing their vocational or educational goals.
  • A total of $26,000 to seven women in our community pursuing their education and training post-high school as part of our club’s signature Career Advancement Scholarship (CAS). We received more than 30 applications. 
  • A total of $11,500 High School Scholarships pledged to six graduating women.

SCHOLARSHIP SUCCESS STORIES

  • One CAS recipient is on her way to becoming an elementary educator, with a long-term goal of working with special needs students.  
  •  Another is a student of Communications with a future goal of law school to advocate for immigrants.
  • The first female guest conductor of a local high school band will be attending UNR to study music.
  • Three recipients are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and another learning sonogram technology to assist women in prenatal care and healthy birthing process. 

OVERALL COMMUNITY SUPPORT

In addition to supporting women and girls in our community, your donations have aided SITD in supporting numerous deserving community needs and efforts, such as:

Senior Services
Granted $1,500 to support Meals on Wheels program, ensuring
that 60 women living in senior apartments receive daily meals
and companionship.
Sierra Community House
Provided a $5,000 grant for needed equipment, educational
materials, toys and furniture enriching the educational
experience of families participating in the Sierra Community
House Family Room bilingual early learning program.
Teen Closet
SITD hosted a baby shower among its members to collect infant clothing and diapers. The baby goods are kept on hand at the local high school for teen parents in need.
North Tahoe Truckee Homeless Services
Granted $2,000 to help women and children with housing, food,
and transportation over the year.
Combating Sex Trafficking
Distributed $2500 to Sierra Community House for promotion of the 24/7 helpline and $2500 to Awaken for their transitional
housing furniture. Additionally, we created and distributed bilingual posters throughout Tahoe City and Truckee directing women to a 24/7 helpline.
Toy Drive
Thirty of our members gathered and sorted more than 1,500 toys supporting 470 families in need as part of the Truckee
Community Cares Toy Drive.
Soroptishop Artisan Faire
Organized an event for more than 60 local artisans to sell their handcrafted goods in November, the proceeds support ongoing
scholarship and grant programs.
49th Annual Wine & Restaurant Faire
This signature fundraiser attracted over 350 attendees who enjoyed local wines, cuisine, music and a silent auction.
Truckee High School/Sierra High School
We provided $3,250 for various Educational, Arts, Science and Sports Programs including equipment and uniforms for girls’
sports teams and scholarships for the national Model UN Conference.
Truckee Community Theater
A $1,000 grant supported costume and set expenses, as well as scholarships for women and girls acting program.
Truckee School of Music
Our $1,000 grant for sound equipment has positively impacted
up to 200 youth in our community.
KidZone Museum
Provided $1,500 For Educational Materials, including Bilingual books for children.
Truckee Roundhouse
A $1,770 grant funded Scholarships for their Summer Camp.
Headwaters Science Institute
Provided $2,800 in grants for camping gear and scholarships, enabling girls to attend Summer Science Camp.
