For more than 40 years, Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner has identified a local woman who is worthy of special recognition for her outstanding contributions to our community and with a special emphasis on services for women and girls. Although known in Soroptimist circles as the “Soroptimist Ruby Award”, locally we have utilized the “Woman of Distinction” verbiage for our annual recognition.
What criteria do we use for this award? The following five guidelines assist us in identifying possible nominations for this award.
● Honors a local woman for her outstanding contributions to her community.
● Includes both professional and volunteer contributions.
● Prioritizes contributions impacting women and girls.
● Recognizes longevity and extent of her contributions; 10+ years in general and at least 5+ years directly impacting the local Truckee and North Lake Tahoe community.
● Also values the demonstration of the special qualities and characteristics of leadership, compassion, integrity, commitment, and ability to serve as “role model” for other women and girls.
The “Woman of Distinction” Committee has already met; we are a small but mighty group—Leslie Dugger, Marilynn Davies and Nancy Wallis. We already have one strong candidate for this years’ award, but could use your help in identifying other local women deserving of this honor. We can accept nominations through November. In December, committee members interview each nominee and then a group of three non-Soroptimist local women review the nomination materials and select our honoree.
So…..put on your thinking caps and help us identify women in our community deserving of this very special award. To help with in this effort, here are links to a listing of all of our prior “Woman of Distinction” honorees and to our official nomination form.
