As I write this I am enjoying the beautiful fall weather we are experiencing in Truckee. Crisp mornings and beautiful afternoons. So fortunate that the poor air quality was short-lived. This month promises to be an exciting month for our club! I hope you all can participate in as many events as possible.
We start off with the October 4 program meeting at Pizza on the Hill where we will have speakers from several groups that we support, including KidZone, Sierra Seniors, and La Fuerza Latina Program.
On October 8 we have our Highway Cleanup. Sign up on our website. It's fun to work together and very satisfying to see our clean section of 80. If you have any questions, please contact Sue Sage.
On October 27 we have our SUDS event at Alibi. Drinks and appetizers will be available. This is an opportunity for prospective members to learn more about our club in a social setting. If you know of anyone who you would like to invite, please reach out to them and RSVP on their behalf on our ClubRunner website, sitd.info. If you have any questions regarding the SUDS, please contact our membership committee.
And, October 29 is the District 5 meeting in Quincy. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn what Soroptimist is doing on a regional level and meet and mingle with other members. Details are on the Sierra Nevada Region website.
Work is also underway for our Soroptishop. A number of members have stepped up to volunteer to make this year‘s event a grand success. If you are interested in helping, in any way… big or small... please reach out to Kathleen Raber or Pati Johnson. We are always on the lookout for more vendors and, of course, sponsors. I’d also like to applaud Chris Seitz and Pam English as they are, once again, working with the Truckee high school to teach a cooking/science class for the students. What a wonderful way to connect with our young Truckee community.
Finally, the “Live Your Dream” application period is open. $4,000 is available for women for education or training. Women must be the head of household and have at least one dependent.
Applications are at bit.ly/LYDA-apply and are due by November 15th. If you know of anyone who may qualify, please encourage them to apply. We also have posters that are available for circulation to promote the award.
I hope to see you out on the trails or lake, and at these wonderful events!
Come to our Program Meeting on October 4th at Pizza on the Hill from 5-7 pm. We will be hosting a variety of local organizations who have benefited from SITD's funding. Speakers will talk about how our funds have made a difference in their organization and their ability to serve the community. Speakers include representatives from:LaFuerza Latina Program, Truckee Community Theater,Senior Services, KidZone and Headwaters Science Institute.
Attendees will pay a fee of $20 each for pizza and salad (to be collected at the door). Drinks are available for purchase as well.
Come join us for this informative event and learn how our funds make a difference in our community! Sign up on sitd.info. Contact Cathy Leibow at cleibow2@gmail.com if you have any questions.
What’s more fun than getting together with friends and helping to beautify our town? Please join us for our Highway Cleanup Day on Saturday, October 8th. We’ll meet at Wild Cherries at 8:00 for a safety overview and for handing out the gear (please bring your own gloves and safety glasses/sun glasses), will break into smaller groups and head out to clean up our stretch of Interstate 80.
We need 8 more helpers so please sign up today! Many hands make light work. And don’t forget…. We now are eligible to receive $250 for each cleanup day! Let’s go out for lunch afterwards to celebrate a job well done.
In the Fall and Spring, all the SI-clubs in our region get together by District to share ideas, information and get to know each other better. Our District 5 sister club in Quincy is hosting the meeting this year on October 29th.
It will be held from 9-2:30 at the Elks Lodge in Quincy. The theme is "Awesome Autumn". Contact our delegate, Diane Venezia, if you want to ride share to the meeting for the day or you can stay Friday night. Details will be on the website soon.
Pam English was recognized for the “Made it Happen“ award in September. Pam works tirelessly on behalf of the Club, with much of it being “behind the scenes.“ She is our liaison with the high school, she maintains connections with our scholarship recipients, she helps organize the Live Your Dream award, she applies for grants on behalf of the Club and she handles our press releases and publishes our beautiful news bulletin every month (just to name a few of her activities!). Hats off and cheers to our very special Pam!
The Soroptishop Committee is very excited to host our live/in-person Soroptishop Artisan Craft Faire once again this year, and we need your help.
We anticipate 60 vendors who will be offering quite a variety of items for sale. For those who are unable to attend the live event, we will also have multiple vendors signed up for the virtual portion of the Artisan Faire. It is a great opportunity to do some holiday gift shopping. And to pick up a little something for yourself!
We need Vendors! If you know any artisan who you think would like to sell their items at our event, please direct them to www.Soroptishop.GiveSmart.com for information or to register. Or you can have them contact Kathleen Raber or Pati Johnson for information.
We also need SITD members to sign up to help on the day of the event. A Volunteer Signup sheet will be coming in October and will include help with Set Up, Take Down, Pouring Wine, and Ticket Sales/Check In. Please be thinking of where you would like to help. And mark your calendar!!
We also need all members to help promote this fun event. Tell your family, friends and co-workers about it. Post and share on your social media pages. Send out text and emails.
This is our club’s second largest fundraiser. All net proceeds help to pay for the programs which we support.
