Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner (SITD) consists of a diverse group of women – adults spanning all ages and all phases of life – who are committed to a common goal: improving the lives of women and children (especially girls), in our local community as well as nationally and throughout the world. We are a volunteer service club, which means that there is an emphasis on raising funds to support our varied charitable endeavors. However, that does not stop us from having fun – both through working together and “playing” together. Many of our current and former members have formed life-long friendships.
Our organization was founded in 1971, and our membership numbers have ranged from 25 – 60 throughout the years. You can read more about our service projects in detail in other sections of this website.
Highlights include: Dream It/Be It Program, which provides career development for at-risk girls; Annual scholarships to graduating High School Seniors; STEPP Program, which supports teen parents and their children; Support of various sport and arts programs for youth and women; Support for senior citizens within our area; Support for maternal and child health in the remote parts of the Himalayas in Nepal; JWOC, which provides educational opportunity to underserved girls in Cambodia.
