Chartered in 1921, Soroptimist International (SI) is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. More than 80,000 Soroptimists in about 130 countries and territories support community–based and global projects benefiting women and girls. The organization is particularly concerned with providing them access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination.
Soroptimist International has a seat at the United Nations and is consulted on matters affecting women and children across the world.
Soroptimist International of the Americas (SIA) has nearly 1,300 clubs in 20 countries and territories who work to improve the lives of women and girls. Soroptimist clubs receive assistance in their volunteer efforts by participating locally in programs developed and sponsored by the Soroptimist organization.
Sierra Nevada Region (SNR) Soroptimists represent over 1800 members in 53 clubs located from Sacramento north to Yreka and all of the state of Nevada. Through Soroptimist International SNR joins over 80,000 members in 132 countries as “A Global Voice for Women.” Together Soroptimists make a difference through Awareness, Advocacy and Action, working together for the betterment of local communities and the world with a major focus on issues affecting women and children.
Founded in 1971, Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner (SITD) provides volunteer services and financial support locally and internationally. We work to improve the lives of women and children (primarily girls), in an atmosphere of support, friendship and fun. We raise funds which are then donated to programs we support and organizations in need.
