15 Oct 2026 SITD Teen Closet Baby Shower Oct 15, 2026 5:30 PM For many years Sierra High School has supported its young mothers with items from their teen closet. SITD has supported this program thru donations given once a year at a fun evening when we get together at a members house to socialize, learn about the program, and donate both cute and practical items for their closet. Below is the list of items they have requested we give from. The club has $500 to spend and will get some of the practical items like thermometers so you can enjoy shopping for other suggestions on the list. If you can not join us on the 15th please bring your donation to the October meeting.
18 Oct 2026 Truckee River Day - Community Service Project Oct 18, 2026 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Calling all SITD members, family, and friends! We have a great opportunity to participate in a community service project, spend time together, and help restore and repair our own Truckee River Watershed. So please mark your calendars for the 31st Annual Truckee River Day and Fair on Sunday, October 18th. Last year, 20+ SITD members with their families and friends participated in the event. Get ready to get your hands in the water and your boots in the mud and be part of what started it all! The very first Truckee River Day in 1996 spawned today's Truckee River Watershed Council. Since then thousands of nature-lovers have shown up yearly with their gumboots, buckets, shovels and smiles to take on hundreds of restoration projects throughout our own Truckee River watershed. Truckee River Day projects are designed to boost the benefits of large-scale restoration construction that has been completed in recent years. Activities like spreading native seed, planting willows, mulching, building beaver dams, improving trails and stabilizing streambanks help to recharge groundwater, increase moisture to vegetation that supports critical habitat, and keeps water flowing in our streams later into the dry season. This year, Soroptimist International of Truckee Donner (SITD) can sign up as a group for two projects. Both are half-day efforts running from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Project #1: Bear Creek/Snowcrest: This project site is located in Alpine Meadows, off of Highway 89 South. We will be working in conjunction with the US Forest Service planting willow stakes and spreading seed and mulch helping to complete tasks from a recently completed restoration project. This is a smaller project site and will be limited to 15 participants. First come--first assigned! Project #2: Sagehen Tree Planting: This project site is located at Sagehen off of Highway 89 North. We would be working in conjunction with the US Forest Service and the Sugar Pine Foundation planting a diverse mix of native pine trees to improve forest resiliency. This is a larger project site and can accommodate 50 or more participants. After a day of working to restore our watershed, you are invited to the Truckee River Day Fair at Granite Flat Campground from 1-4pm to celebrate the Truckee River! There will be live entertainment, environmental education activities, art and craft projects, and more and free food and drink as long as supplies last. The Granite Flat Campground is located one mile south of Truckee on Highway 89 and very convenient for the Bear Creek/Snowcrest participants! Please spell out Soroptimist and do not use SITD. List your #1 and #2 preferences for the sites assigned to the Soroptimists. The Bear Creek/Snowcrest site is limited to 15 so it is first come; first assigned. You are welcome to sign up for any of the other six Truckee River Day sites but if you want to be with a Truckee Donner Soroptimist group, the Bear Creek/Snowcrest and Sagehen sites are identified as our SITD sites.
